Another poem written on the bus. Inspired in-part by an interview with Sharon Stone in a 1995 edition of Premiere magazine. Talking about the pressures of fame and celebrity, Ms Stone commented, "It's lonely at the top, but it's crowded at the bottom." Something about the wryness of the statement stayed with me, and, nearly twenty years later (blimey), I've popped it in a poem. Anyway, career strategists: we've all known them, sometimes we've been them. I ain't judgin' (much) - just throwing a spotlight.
Are you a career strategist?
(It's lonely at the top, but it's crowded at the bottom)
Do you step on heads,
Clawing your way up the career ladder?
Professional apathy will take you far
Buy you Yes-men,
Perhaps a new car?
Do you take credit and steal other's shine
Do you bask in other's limelight, feeling just fine?
Maybe all your elbow shoving will pay off one day...
It's important to realise this is just a game we play
When you're blinded by ambition
It's difficult to see
There is no "I" in "team"
(But there's definitely a "me")
